This analysis joins ICMM's public facility register (Global Mining Dataset v1.5, July 2026) to WRI Aqueduct 4.0 water-risk scenarios. At baseline, 38.6% of the 7,104 public facilities sit in basins at high or critical water stress; under the business-as-usual pathway (SSP3-RCP7.0) that share reaches 41.9% by 2050. The aggregate barely moves — the finding is distributional: which facilities cross or intensify risk bands, and 423 of them worsen.
Every reading is basin exposure at a point coordinate — not site hydrology, not a footprint, and not operational risk. Scenarios are conditional screens, not forecasts.
